I am doing my very first half marathon on 18th May 2025 at the AJ Bell event in Manchester. I have chosen Bay Hospital Charity because of the Special Care Baby Unit at Furness General that took care of our daughter Ali when she was born premature at 32 weeks.
From the moment we were told I'd have to have an emergency c section I was scared what would happen to our baby, not knowing at the time she was a girl.
From the beginning the staff at SCBU supported us in taking care of Ali: from showing us how to hold her with all these wires coming off her; teaching us how to feed her through a tube in her nose; changing the worlds smallest nappy without feeling like you were going to break her; checking her temperature every few hours; and even helping us understand all the hospital information we were given, not forgetting all the emotional support during a difficult time in my life.
